You might be familiar with modular construction, but you’ll probably be surprised to learn about the entire journey of a module. Stick around and see what it takes to get to the final steps of modular construction. Journey of a module begins with it being fabricated on site in a factory. Modules are built out into a fully furnished living space, like an apartment unit or hotel room. These modules can be completed months before a project is set to begin. From here, the modules either need to be delivered to the job site, or if the job site is not ready to begin setting modules, they must be transported to a location where these modules can be stored until the site is ready. That’s where a staging yard comes into play. A staging yard is a temporary location where these modules can sit until the construction site is ready. The modules need to be organized in specific sequences, so that the trucks can transport the correct module at the desired time. Once the construction site is ready, the trucks prepare the modules in advance for transport. This includes loading the module onto the truck, then securing it for transport by strapping it in. After these measures are complete, the truck starts shuttling the modules from the staging yard to the jobsite. Once the modules reach the job site, the securing straps are taken off by the drivers, followed by the wrapping being stripped off by the construction crew. This enables it to be cradled, which is when the crane straps are connected underneath the module. After the modules cradled, it is then hoisted off the truck and set into position on the job site.
