Deliver Prefabricated Modular Buildings With a Single Driver

When it comes to modular construction trailers, it’s hard to beat the innovative features of a hydraulic jack lift trailer. These trailers allow a single person to deliver prefabricated buildings to any job site safely and quickly, making offsite construction logistics a breeze. This will enable you to save money on your modular building transport while reducing liability.

Modular construction is transforming the building industry, making it faster, more efficient, and less labor-intensive. However, a common challenge is the lack of access to specialized trailers for hauling modules and other useful equipment like Stream Modular’s Field Lift Pro™ column lifts for raising and lowering modules to different heights.

Stream Modular addresses this with innovative hydraulic jack lift trailers, allowing drivers to autonomously load and unload modules and specialized equipment, reducing the need for additional labor or heavy machinery. This article explores how these trailers work and their impact on modular construction, as well as complementary solutions like Field Lift Pro™ for comprehensive modular transportation and logistics.

The Purpose Behind Hydraulic Jack Lift Trailers

These specialized carriers have six heavy-duty hydraulic jacks that can lift the trailer’s deck up 16 inches to load and unload modules. The hydraulic jack lift trailers streamline the loading and unloading process for modular construction. Where traditional methods often require a team of workers and various pieces of equipment, such as cranes, a single driver can manage the entire process with hydraulic jack lift trailers. This is particularly crucial at staging yards, which generally don’t have handling equipment and are often unmanned.

These hydraulic carriers also offer a more gentle loading and unloading process, which is incredibly important for the safe loading and unloading of certain modules, such as wood-framed modular structures, which are more vulnerable when lifted by a crane. And while steel modules are more rigid, crane rentals can be expensive. Hydraulic carriers offer significant savings in both time and money for transportation logistics for all types of modules.

The Loading Process

Stream Modular’s goal with the hydraulic jack lift trailers was to make the process of loading your modules as seamless as possible. With these carriers, drivers can autonomously load modules on and off of a trailer without additional labor or equipment. Here are the steps of that process:

  1. Positioning the trailer: The first step is to properly align the trailer with the modular unit that needs to be loaded.
  2. Engaging the hydraulic system: Once the trailer is in place, the driver activates the hydraulic system. Stream’s trailers come equipped with a user-friendly remote control that allows the driver to manage the hydraulic jacks with precision.
  3. Lifting the trailer: The hydraulic jacks lift the trailer to the required height, allowing it to align perfectly with the module and ensuring a smooth transfer from the cribbing to the deck of the trailer.
  4. Remove cribbing and lower the deck. With the module now sitting on the deck of the trailer, it’s time to remove the cribbing out of the way. Then, with the remote control, the driver can lower the deck of the trailer back down to the normal ride height.
  5. Securing the module: Once the trailer is properly positioned under the module, the hydraulic jacks are lowered, and the module is gently set onto the trailer. The module is then secured to ensure it stays in place during transportation.

Unloading The Module

Unloading the module is just as straightforward as the loading process. Here’s how it works:

  1. Positioning the trailer: The driver positions the trailer in the desired unloading location. This might be at a staging yard or at a construction site where the module will be hoisted into position.
  2. Activating the hydraulic system: As with loading, the hydraulic system is activated to lift the deck of the trailer.
  3. Place the cribbing into position. Carefully position the cribbing on the strongest portions of the module, usually the rim joists.
  4. Lowering the module: Once the cribbing is in place, the hydraulic jacks are lowered, gently lowering the deck of the trailer until the module is carefully transferred onto the cribbing.
  5. Securing the module in place: Finally, the module is secured in its new location.

Benefits of Hydraulic Jack Lift Trailers

This hydraulic system on the trailer is key to moving modules steadily, safely, and quickly. Here are a few specific benefits of using hydraulic jack lift trailers in modular construction:

  • Efficiency: The ability to load and unload modules autonomously saves considerable time. What used to take hours and a team of workers can now be done by a single driver in a fraction of the time.
  • Cost Savings: These trailers help lower overall project costs by reducing the need for additional labor and equipment.
  • Safety: Traditional methods of loading and unloading modules often involve heavy machinery and numerous workers, increasing the risk of accidents. Hydraulic jack lift trailers minimize these risks by simplifying the process and reducing the number of people involved.
  • Precision: The hydraulic system allows for precise control, ensuring that modules are loaded and unloaded with minimal risk of damage. This precision is particularly important for modular construction, where units need to fit together perfectly on site.

Stream Modular’s Investment In The Future Of Modular Construction

Hydraulic carriers aren’t commonly used in other types of transportation. This has caused a lack of carriers and drivers available for the modular construction industry, which can lead to project delays. We hope to help the industry overcome this challenge. When discussing the details behind our investment in hydraulic carriers, Carson Holmquist, co-founder and CEO of Stream Modular, says, “We want to see this industry grow, not stagnate, so investing in solutions that drive the modular industry forward is crucial for us..”

As modular construction continues to grow, innovations like these hydraulic jack lift trailers are an important facet of the industry. By making the loading and unloading process more efficient, cost-effective, and safer, these trailers are helping to move the industry forward. If you are considering the logistics of modular construction, whether that means hiring drivers, planning routes, and more, consider consulting with professionals to help alleviate the burden of planning.

Introducing the Field Lift Pro™

To complement our innovative hydraulic jack lift trailers that allow for autonomous loading and unloading of modules, Stream Modular has developed Field Lift Pro™, a specialized column lift solution. This equipment addresses the common challenge of moving modules between different heights, such as loading onto trailers from low cribbing or vice versa at the job site. When a module is low, near ground height, hydraulic trailers cannot back underneath them to self-load. In these cases, such as at the end of a manufacturing line, or in field use, these custom-designed column lifts offer a safe, efficient, and cost-effective way to raise, lower, and reposition modules with precision.

With more safety, usability, and speed enhancements, Field Lift Pro™ provides a superior alternative to traditional methods. The column lifts can be used to load modules onto trailers from low cribbing or unload them at the job site, ensuring a smooth transition between transportation stages while handling the modules with care.

As such, we will now be integrating Field Lift Pro™ as part of our comprehensive modular construction service offerings, pairing the column lifts with transportation services to streamline our processes and reduce downtime.

Additionally, Field Lift Pro™ is available for purchase, making it an ideal solution for startup factories, field operations, and any scenario where modules need to be raised, lowered, or repositioned with precision.
